July 2025 Recap

Hi! Sorry for the delay. The end of this month just flew by. I’m thinking of changing my posting date to the 5th of the month following. I want to be able to give myself some time to actually sum up the month rather than just rushing to post something. So without further ado here we go!

WiPs

I have three WiPs at the moment! I haven’t been very consistent with all three but looking forward to all of them.

The Cyclone Hat by MyGurumi, I’ve been working on for what feels like forever mentioned many times before, is a fun beanie with a twist (pun intended). The pattern itself isn’t available on Ravelry anymore but thanks to some helpful comments on the page linked above, someone was able to find a WayBackMachine version of it. I’m using RMR Yarn Co’s Rocio base in the OOAK and Por Ocho colorways. Doing a linen stitch may be the end of me with this one! I’ve been working on it for what feels like forever with some noticeable progress, but still slow. I’m just looking forward to getting to the brim of the hat. I’m thinking of a two color fisherman’s rib with the current yarn and the second color so it has a more reversible feeling. We’ll see if I have the energy for that when I get there!

My second project is a skirt, the Skeeter Skirt by  Maya Déglon. I’m using some yarn I bought a while back that wasn’t the right color for a different project it is Fiber Optic Yarns Gulf Stream on a Kashmir base. I just couldn’t let that yarn go to waste. Similar to the Cyclone Hat above this pattern is more of a recipe than a strict pattern. I really enjoy all of the video tutorials that the pattern has. I think they were super helpful I don’t know if I would’ve been able to get this started just by reading the pattern alone. I’m working on the large flare but started to lessen the increases as I was worried about having enough yarn. I started the large flare through the pockets and one more repeat after and now instead of increasing the full amount every repeat (5 rows for me) I’m doing it half every repeat. Not sure how that’ll turn out but I’ve gotten past the pocket holes and about 4 inches further. I had three balls and I’ve gone through one ball and not even halfway through the second. So hopefully I’ll be good there

The last WiP I have is a double knit cowl. The color yarn is handspun from some fiber I got earlier this year and the black is some I’ve had forever. I created a chart using the Stained Glass series by Deborah Tomasello modified and adding in a round window chart. I started with a provisional cast on thanks to this helpful video by Lucy Neatby. I’m not very far in and my handspun yarn wasn’t the most consistent but I’m liking how it’s turning out! Definitely not one I can just mindlessly work on while watching tv.

FOs

I have 1 FO this month and I finished this at the beginning of the month. It’s this purple top using the Honeycomb Crochet Tank Top pattern by Briana K Designs. Finally found a use for that Trueboo yarn I was struggling with! This was a very simple project and worked up really quickly! It was such a quick project I entered it into the county fair! More on that below!

Frogs

No frogs this month!

Loose Ends

County Fair update! I entered 7 items into the fair in the Christmas, Crochet, and Knit categories. For Christmas I entered one of the five stockings I made this past year for my pups, my husband, and I. Crochet entries were the FO for this month, the geode blanket from last month’s FOs and a sweater I made earlier last year using the Sensum Sweater pattern by Linda Skuja. Knitting entries were my wedding dress I completed in August 2023 for our wedding in September that year, a sweater made using the Acacia Cardigan pattern by Irene Lin, and the cowl I mentioned before using the Orbit Cowl pattern by Lisa R. Meyers.

Entering the fair was pretty easy. My county had a website entry form that was easy to fill out and each item in the Textiles & Crafts category only had a $1 entry fee. Dropoff was the day before the fair officially opened and pickup was the day after.

Each of my entries won a prize with my wedding dress bringing home best of show! It was fun to be able to put my stuff out there and showcase my work. I was sad there weren’t very many entries though so this is my call to action for everyone to enter at least 1 thing into their county fair! I loved looking at the other projects there. There were some amazing quilts that I couldn’t take my eyes off!

I’m planning on doing a dedicated blog post on the wedding dress and my process so look out for that in the future!

Closing

Thanks for stopping by this month. Look forward to posts being on or around the 5th going forward and enter your local fairs!
